Maltacourt Acquire Nice Forwarder, Extrordinair Limited

Based adjacent to the runway at Edinburgh airport, Extr-Ordin-Air has been trading for over 30 years and from its strategic base at the centre at one of the UK’s busiest airports it provides a complete suite of freight forwarding services to a diverse and international client base.

The Extr-Ordin-Air team now becomes part of the wider Maltacourt family but remains firmly a Scottish business operating as an independent subsidiary. Former owner Sylvia Fleming MBE has chosen to step back from the business and work with Maltacourt in a more consultative capacity, whilst Derek Fraser; employee of Extr-Ordin-Air for over 15 years and formerly Office Manager has been invited to join the Board of Directors.

Extr-Ordin-Air is truly a unique business and as the only independent freight forwarding and customs clearance agent at Edinburgh airport, it operates a niche skillset and specialist understanding of operations coming in and out of Scotland.

B Extr-Ordin-Air has been approved by APHA (Animal and Plant Health Agency), DEFRA and the EU Federal Veterinary Office to operate the first ever privately-owned Animal Receiving Centre and Border Inspection Post at Edinburgh. Extr-OrdinAir is a fully approved member of BIFA (The British International Freight Association) and IATA (International Air Transport Association), carries AEO certification (Authorised Economic Operator) and is the first UK freight forwarder to attain SeMS, (Security Management System) making it a highly complaint and regulated forwarding service provider – mirroring the high standards Maltacourt has set across it’s businesses.

Extr-Ordin-Air share several synergies with Maltacourt and after working together for a significant period the move felt right for both parties, as Adam Williams, Commercial Director of Maltacourt UK goes on to explain.

“I’m delighted to be welcoming Extr-OrdinAir into the Maltacourt Group. We’ve been working with Sylvia for over 2 years looking at the best way of bringing the two companies together. The timing was right and we were able to make it happen. It’s an excellent business and shares many of the same qualities and values as Maltacourt. I look forward to leveraging the expertise and strengths already in place at Maltacourt to add the maximum possible value to the current Extr-OrdinAir customer base and vice versa. There’s no doubt the team at Extr-Ordin-Air will contribute significantly to the Group’s already high level of operational expertise”

Adam Williams, Commercial Director Maltacourt UK

Extr-Ordin-Air’s revenues exceeded £1.5m last year and with the support of infrastructure offered by Maltacourt, accessing their global network and opportunity to cross sell further services, the team are confident this will only improve.

Derek Fraser, newly appointed Director at Extr-Ordin-Air went on to add “We’re looking forward to what the future holds. Already Adam and the Maltacourt team are showing us great support, investing in the business so we can continue to deliver top class customer service to our clients. It’s an exciting time for Extr-Ordin-Air.”

The addition of ExtrOrdin-Air gives Maltacourt a significant operational presence through the spine of the UK, with all the major logistical hubs covered from London Heathrow to Manchester and Liverpool and now Edinburgh.
